The Museum grounds are available to lease for weddings and many other functions!

This is a registered Texas historical landmark and it retains all the original, native rock work as well as wood work, the original doors with their locks and copper keys are delightful.

THE OLD PERRY MERCHANTILE

At the back is the grove of salt cedars which surround the spot where the old fashioned water trough was built for the stage teams, the oxen, and pack animals. From the first store account book, we see that stabling for an ox was 50 cents a day!

This is a replica of Judge Roy Bean's famous saloon and courtroom. For several years Judge Roy Bean was the only "Law West of The Pecos."

The Governor once wrote to the "Law West of the Pecos" and got the following reply from Judge Roy Bean:

Dear Governor:

You run things up in Austin and I'll run 'em down here.

Yours Truly,
Roy Bean

The remains of Judge Roy Bean and his son, Sam Bean, are buried on the museum grounds.

The Jersey Lily Saloon

The items that were the authority of the "court" were Judge Bean's six guns, a copy of the Revised Statute of Texas, natural shrewdness, and the intestinal fortitude to enforce his rulings.

Judge Bean's penalties ranged from a round of drinks in the combination courtroom/bar, to death - and these penalties stuck.

Texas Black Tip Prairie Dogs

CADENA NATIVITY

An awe inspiring display! The nativity is 32' long, 10' high, and 20' deep and has 1,287 items. This culture folk-art exhibit was the life-long passion/work of a local Del Rio lady and was given to us for exhibit by her family after her death. Because of its size, it is on exhibit in its own temperature-controlled building.
